What to Do in Difficult Times - Part 2

Difficult times are what they are... There are certain things I miss about the worst of mine. The focus, the clarity, the sense of feeling amazingly close to God. That being said, not having the tools in the midst of them can be excruciating!

Here are a few more pointers for the bread basket -

4. Separate what's necessary, from what's not.
My counselor used to tell a wonderful story as an example of this. He called it the two sniff test. In hard times, when he picked up his young kid's clothes left on the floor, if they passed the two sniff test they went back in the draw! Always makes me smile this one. It speaks directly to what's necessary and what's not.

5. Everyone gets their needs met.
Needs and wants are very different ball games. Meeting needs and meeting wants can be the difference between sanity and losing it. Keep your sanity and meet needs, not wants. If there's room for a few wants later on, sure, go for it but knowing the difference is a game changer. Be sure to include yourself by meeting your own needs.

6. The life saver's protocol
Australian beaches are famous for their life savers. They have a protocol - Don't let anyone drag you under. Helping others is all good, but if they're going down, they don't get to take you with them. Learn to read the signals, metaphorically speaking and get tough with love if you need to.

As a foot note, you are the expert on you. Advice is all well and good, but your own solutions, doing what works for you is the best advice of all. Trust yourself.

PPS If what you're doing isn't working, you know the definition of insanity right? - "Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result."

Hang in there! <3

 A little perspective really helps!

Love the two sniff test Simon lol I think many do something similar at times, especially if they have kids and are being pulled in a few directions! Don’t sweat the small stuff I believe is another! Thank you

    1. Yeah, pretty fun :D
I like the adjunct to that suggestion too, it's all small stuff. One foot in front of another, pushing through 'the wall' in a marathon. You come out the other side of the pain if you keep going. We both know a bit about that huh? :)
